Arabic

Arabic is a central Semitic language with most of its speakers located in the Middle East and Northern Africa. Although spoken dialects of Arabic vary greatly from area to area and are often unintelligible between countries, written Arabic is standardised and known as Modern Standard Arabic.

The Arabic alphabet is derived from the Aramaic script and is written from right to left. It bears a loose resemblance to Greek script.

Translation Tips: The Arabic language is read from right to left. Hence a typical Arabic document starts from what an English speaker would consider the back and finish at the front, giving the document a back-to-front look. Simple text documents only require a renumbering and reordering of the pages, however for larger, more detailed documents (containing diagrams and images, websites, brochures and other items for publication) some redesign of the content may be required.
